"only
when you walk through the door do you understand the feeling of comfort and hospitality"
The Sutherland landscape has a wilderness that won't prepare you for the delightful
Tongue Hotel. The hotel sits just off the road on a steeply sloping bank which
masks the size of the building, and only when you walk through the door do you
understand the feeling of comfort and hospitality. The
Tongue Hotel was built as a hunting lodge in the late 1800's by the Duke of Sutherland
and retains many of its original features and furniture. The Hotel has 16 bedrooms,
all unique, some with beautifully tiled fire places, big easy chairs and brass
bedsteads. The cocktail bar and conservatory style lounge are comfortable and
charming. A range of whiskies and Scottish ales are always available. The dining
room, spacious and elegant, serves traditional breakfast and full dinner. There
is local produce available, Loch Erribol king prawns and Kyle of Tongue Oysters
are caught nearby, and we provide a varied menu complemented by an extensive wine
list. Walkers welcome. Other awards include the Green Tourism Bronze Award. |
